Students from BLCI Present Their Videos at Logan Heights Library

The fifth, seventh, and eighth grade students from the Barrio Logan College Institute that participated in Mobile Stories presented their videos last night at the Logan Heights Library. Students researched topics that ranged from homelessness to drug addiction to career options and they interviewed experts and professionals in those fields.

Mobile Stories Screening!

The videos produced by the 5th & 8th graders at the Bario Logan College Institute will be screening their news stories at the Logan Heights Library on March 19th at 6:30pm. Drinks and snacks will be provided! Call Julia at 619.230.1938 for more information.

A Mobile Story on Gun Control- by Philip Martinez

Philip Martinez, an intern from High Tech High Point Loma, has touched on a very controversial topic, gun control. He asks educators tough questions like “Do guns kill people or do people kill people?”

Logan Heights Screening of Stories and New Classes

Instructor Karl, students and teachers from Bario Logan College Institute, and parents got together for a screening of the videos made by students. Great work guys!

Instructors Evan and Frank are at Logan Heights library this month, teaching the 5th grade and 8th grade classes at the Bario Logan College Institute. Topics they’re brainstorming range from homelessness and hunger to racial respect to finding a cure for cancer. Excited to see what happens!

SDHS students talk about land use at Central Library

Students from Ms. Enoch’s film class at San Diego High School came to Central Library to make videos about land use. Students interviewed Ben Clay, the Chair of Balboa Park’s 2015 Centennial Expo, to get some insight on the project.

Students at UCSD Become Citizen Journalists

Students at UCSD became Citizen Journalists for an evening with instructor, Karl Flores. Karl supplied footage from the Arab Spring while students video-taped the footage using iPhones and created voice overs as if they were actually filming the event as it was happening.

This is a great example of how smartphones have changed the face of Citizen Journalism.
